Helping new players join with the TrivNow App

  • Needs: Managers for a local trivia company that uses an app called TrivNow to run their events noticed that while their hosts were comfortable with the hosting side of the TrivNow platform, they were less familiar with the TrivNow player app.  This presented an issue when new players needed help to log in for the first time and hosts weren't immediately certain how to guide them through the process.  Training hosts on this issue needed to be quick, unintrusive, and effective.
  • Objective: This short tutorial video is designed to help teach trivia hosts how to assist new players who need help joining their trivia event through the TrivNow app.
  • Experience: Hosts watch a ~2 minute video walking them through two different methods available for players to join the game.
  • Audience: MAPPS trivia hosts
  • Programs Used: OBS Studio (audio recording), Pixel 6 Screen Recording, DaVinci Resolve (video editing)

Tour de France: The Basics in under FOUR Minutes!

  • Objective: Provide a short, easy to understand video guide to the Tour de France.
  • Audience: People unfamiliar with cycling and the Tour de France that would like to understand the race better.
  • Process: I created an outline for a short in-person presentation with an initial plan to create a Powerpoint.  As I was working, I realized that this would be more effective as a video.  Throughout the process, I considered the audience and their cognitive load, carefully designing learning that would be clear, understandable, and digestible.  For example instead of one long video, I instead chose to break down the learning into three segments.  After storyboarding and script writing, I recorded my voice over in Audacity.  Then it was time to start creating the animated video, using Vyond Animation.
  • Programs Used: Audacity (audio recording), Vyond (animation and sound design)
